Listed below are the recordings that will appear on this eight-CD box set. The announced release date is November 3, 1998. Note that this box set will include all studio recordings by the quartet for Impulse, both with Elvin Jones and with Roy Haynes on drums. It also includes seven previously unissued titles, three from the 1964 Crescent session, an alternate version of Resolution from the A Love Supreme session, and alternate takes from three of the 1965 sessions. Liner notes are by Bob Blumenthal, with an introduction by Michael Cuscuna. Although both The Recordings of John Coltrane: A Discography, David Wild, 1979, and John Coltrane, Yasuhiro Fujioka, 1995, show Workman as the bassist on the first session, Cuscuna reports that Workman himself thought it was Garrison.
