Tom Fairlie... Director, Temple Jazz Orchestra

Thomas Fairlie has been the Division Director of Fine Arts at Temple College since 1999. He previously held the positions of Chairman of the Performing Arts Department, Chairman of the Music Department, and Director of Instrumental music and has been a fulltime faculty member at Temple College since 1990. Mr. Fairlie founded and has directed the Temple Jazz Orchestra since 1990. Additionally, he founded the Temple Jazz Festival in 1991, and continues as co-director of the festival. He is the founding and current musical director/conductor of the Temple Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Fairlie was also the co-founder and former musical director/conductor of the Larimer Youth Festival Orchestra (now the Youth Orchestra of the Rockies) from 1995-1999 in Fort Collins, Colorado. He also guest conducted the Fort Collins symphony in a chamber concert and a side-by-side concert with the Larimer Youth Festival Orchestra during the summer of 1999. He was invited return to guest conduct a pair of concerts with the Rocky Mountain Youth Orchestra in the summer of 2002. |
Mr. Fairlie has shared the stage with numerous internationally known jazz and classical artists with both the Temple Jazz Orchestra and with the Temple Symphony Orchestra. He has extensive clinician experience with bands and orchestras throughout Texas. Mr. Fairlie holds the MM from the University of Louisville in 1981, a BE from the University of Toledo in1977, and was selected a Fellow to the Conductors Institute of South Carolina in 1994. He has held principal trumpet positions with the Guadalajara Symphony (Mexico) and the Midland-Odessa Symphony and has performed with many other professional orchestras in Mexico, Texas, Ohio, and Kentucky. He has been married to Temple College faculty member Mary Fairlie since 1977, and they have resided together in Temple since 1990. | |
